Five Stars in the Telegraph

Adelle's new book, Base Notes; The Scents of a Life, has been awarded a 5-star review by Tomoé Hill in The Telegraph.

She writes, "This 'scent' memoir told through perfumes is ingenious... A story of family in all its fractures and complexity: the relationship between parents, children, siblings and spouses; how we attempt to both escape ourselves and others with varying degrees of success. Its symphonic olfactory narration has a sharpness and depth of recollection which remains as vivid as their first experiencing. A desire to immerse the reader in a certain perspective or experiences risks becoming florid on the page, but Stripe successfully avoids this with her balanced prose, candid yet intimate.

Reality, Base Notes suggests, isn't all Parisian cafés and glamour, and so what? That doesn't make it unworthy of what's in the these little glass bottles. More than any advertising dream, it's this life, with all its surprising highs and lows, that shapes who we are - and in turn, how we see the world that lingers in our olfactory memories."
